Danish “enrollment” at Facebook exploding?!
More or less exactly 9 days ago, I looked at the statistics of the Nordic countries’ presence on Facebook.
At that point, the Denmark network had 68.156 profiles. Right now it has 82.949 profiles, which indicates that in little more than a week, almost 15.000 Danes has joined Facebook! In my last post, I guessed that based on what I could see in terms of hourly sign-up, around 1400 Danes a day would be joining Facebook. Looking at the stats now, this guess was fairly close to reality, but below actual numbers: in average around 1640 Danes a day are currently joining Facebook.
There are lot of interesting studies on Facebook presented at the Internet Research 8.0 conference Im currently attending (in my last session). I havent been able to attend them all, but look forward to looking more closely into the findings once home and with the papers at hand. I’d really like to do some cross-cultural study of Facebook uptake!
(presentation notes: communicative readiness Nardi 2005 – who is there in our network, we do not need to communicate with someone to feel that they are there, we are “in touch” , Licoppe&Smoreda “connected presence”,plp communicate with the same plp across the various media)
