Catching up on "old news" - Why Games are good for you
The good (or bad thing) about having listed yours truly as PR officer on the gamecenter website is that I start to get questions from journalists about a lot of weird stuff. I usually refer them to someone else in the house, but the local cognitive expert is gone, so the journalist will have to read this: It's Official, Games can make you Smarter... http://usabilitynews.com/news/article1121.asp Video Games May Improve Visual Skills http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/videog.html - and the paper and findings these article refer to is here: http://www.bcs.rochester.edu/people/daphne/videogames.html it was published in nature: Green, C.S. and Bavelier, D., "Action video game modifies visual selective attention", Nature, 423:534-537, 2003. Talmadge Wright and his research (another version of why games are good for you..) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/2744449.stm earlier article on the matter in Game Studies: http://www.gamestudies.org/0202/wright/
